Q:
What is the Peninsula Aquatics Center?
A:
The Peninsula Aquatic Center is a high-quality, purpose-built training and teaching facility designed to deliver personalized swimming instruction, athlete development, and warm-water therapeutic programming through two state-of-the-art endless pool basins. Phase 1 of the facility is primarily designed for scheduled programmed use versus general drop-in swimming.
Q:
Are there future phases planned for the facility?
A:
Phase 1 of the aquatics center is designed as the first step in a larger, thoughtfully planned recreational vision for northern Door County. While Phase 1 focuses on high-quality swimming lessons and training through the two Endless Pool basins, there are two additional phases that will expand the facility into a more complete community hub.
Phase 2 includes plans for an outdoor 25-yard lap pool paired with an outdoor splash pad, creating vibrant summer amenities for families. This addition would provide traditional lap swimming opportunities, outdoor recreation space, and warm-weather programming that complements the year-round training offered indoors.
Phase 3 looks even further ahead. This phase envisions a full indoor 25-yard lap pool, traditional locker rooms, and flexible multi-purpose rooms that could support fitness classes, community programs, or meetings. It also includes an indoor play space, offering four-season recreation options for families.
Together, these phases outline a long-term vision to grow the aquatic center into a comprehensive recreation destination, developed gradually and responsibly as community demand and funding allow.
Q:
Can I buy a membership to swim?
A:
Yes, in addition to sauna memberships you can purchase a monthly or multi-month membership that enables you to book time in the pool. For 2026, pool time is reserved in 45 minute increments. The pools can be reserved for swim training and fitness. At this time, recreational swimming or casual family swimming memberships are being assessed with more details to come if/when plans are finalized.
Q:
Is financial assistance available for programs?
A:
At launch, the aquatic center will not be offering financial assistance for lessons or training programs. During the first season, the focus will be on understanding community demand, refining the schedule, and ensuring programs operate smoothly and sustainably. As the facility grows and establishes a clear picture of participation and capacity, the team will begin exploring options for financial assistance. The long-term goal is to make high-quality aquatic programming accessible to as many people as possible, and future assistance programs will be evaluated thoughtfully with that commitment in mind. If you have reviewed our program pricing on RecDesk and would be in need of financial assistance please let us know so we can begin assessing demand.
Q:
Does the facility have a sauna?
A:
Yes! We have a spacious, traditional sauna finished with aspen wood. The sauna is available for recreational use by patrons during regular facility hours. You can enjoy it with various membership options. Sauna access includes shower and locker area access. Sauna-only membership does not include pool swimming.
Q:
Is the aquatic center taxpayer funded?
A:
No. The aquatic center is not taxpayer funded. The project is privately owned, with support from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) Community Investment Grant. This grant was awarded with the strong support of the Village of Sister Bay and residents throughout Door County, reflecting broad community enthusiasm and alignment with local economic development goals.
Q:
Does the facility have locker rooms?
A:
Yes! We have a modern, universal locker area designed for comfort, privacy, and accessibility for everyone. We provide multiple private, lockable shower and changing rooms that anyone can use. Each private room is large enough to comfortably accommodate a single adult individual or a parent (or guardian) with children.
Inside the locker area, you’ll find day-use lockers for your belongings. Lockers are locked with a resettable code at the time of use. Please note that we do not offer overnight or permanent lockers and everything must be removed when you leave the facility.
Q:
Do you accept insurance for rehab services?
A:
For 2026, Peninsula Aquatics Center will operate on a self-pay / cash-pay basis for all physical therapy and aquatic rehabilitation services. This allows us to provide longer one-on-one sessions, flexible scheduling, and no visit caps or pre-authorization delays.
We do provide detailed superbills with all necessary CPT and ICD-10 codes so patients can submit claims to their insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement (many plans cover 50–80 % after deductible).
We will actively monitoring patient and physician demand and will consider adding select insurance contracts in the future once the program is established and we can ensure they align with our commitment to quality, unhurried care. If insurance acceptance becomes available, current patients and referring providers will be the first to know.
